Tate grew up in central New Mexico on his families’ commercial cattle and club lamb operations. He attended Coffeyville Community College and was a member of the 2007 Reserve National Champion Meat Judging Team, before transferring to Texas Tech University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and master’s degree in Agricultural Education and was a member of the 2009 National Champion Meat Judging team and member of the 2010 National Champion Meat Animal Evaluation Team.

Tate became the Clarendon Meat Judging coach in 2010 and has since lead them to two Nation Championships 2011 & 2013 and two Reserve National Championships 2010 & 2012 and an International World Championship in 2014.
